Yuzuki lives in the small city of Uji which is situated between Kyoto and Nara, two of Japan’s most famous historical and cultural centres. Uji is a cultural center in its own right as it is the home of two of Japan’s oldest buildings the Byodoin Temple, that was built in 998, and the Ujiami Shrine which was established in 1060.
A 3rd grader at Kita-Makishima elementary school, Yuzuki excels in physical education something that has proven helpful in learning to skateboard. One day while skating at the local park he met one of Japan’s top Pro Freestyle skaters, Isamu Yamamoto, who taught him how to do the Dog-Walk. From that day on he has been like Isamu’s little brother skating together and learning new tricks. One trick that was very hard to learn was the Coconut Wheelie, but once he mastered it he was very pleased and happy with himself. That’s what he loves about freestyle, learning new tricks and the joy of mastering them.
Speaking of Masters, Yuzuki says he has several skaters that he admires, Yuta Kikuchi, Mitsuhiro Yasumoto, Isamu Yamamoto, but his mentor is Toshiaki Fujii who has taught him so much. He tries to practice about an hour and a half on weekdays and all day long on weekends and holidays.
Yuzuki and several of his young freestyle pals and their fathers are coming this year to Canada to compete at the World Freestyle Round-Up. He can hardly wait to be able to skate and compete with so many wonderful skaters from around the world.
