Register for the Online Showdown

The Coronavirus may have pulled the plug on this years World Freestyle Round-Up, but it has not stopped us from moving the World Round-Up to an online video format. With the help of Cristobal Bahamonde’t editing skills and Brett Novak’s talents videography, we would like to announce the first ever Words Round-Up Online Showdown. Contestants from around the world can submit a video of their freestyle routine that will be judged by a panel of five international pro freestyle judges. This video gives you the details on how to register for the contest, featuring music by Gersh Bersh.

Online Showdown #1Hello, World Round-Up skaters.

We know you are as disappointed as we are that we had to cancel the contest this year due to the coronavirus outbreak. Even before we announced the cancelation, our team started formulating a backup plan, and here are a few of the details.

What we have decided to do is hold an online freestyle video contest, the first-ever “World Round-Up Online Showdown.”

We considered a LIVE feed format, but it’s not possible for everyone internationally to do a live run because of the different time zones, along with potential technical issues. We will be hosting a video contest with the top skaters going to a live feed show with commentary and pro guest judges. There will be a modest Entry Fee that will guarantee that each participant will receive a Contest T-Shirt and the coveted Contest Belt Buckle.

We are actively approaching sponsors to see if they would be interested in supporting this concept. Several have already stepped up and agreed to support us. Please keep in mind that running an online contest with live feed, prizes and awards can be quite financially different than our regular World Round-Up Freestyle contest. Prize money and AM prizes are still being discussed. We will still award the Henry Candioti SKATE4FUN Award and the Ambassadors Of Freestyle Award, with trophies of some kind for the other divisions (TBD).

As with the World Round-Up, There will be five categories which are:
Pro: (2 minute run)
Amateur: (1.5 minute run)
Masters Pro: Age 40 and over (2 minute run)
Masters Am: Age 40 and over (1.5 minute run)
Rookie: Age 15 and under (1 minute run)

Your video entry will need to be one continuous shot. No editing allowed! Please do not film your video now, as we will be issuing an Entry Form Title Card for your video entry.

Skaters wishing to participate can register now on the World Round-Up website shown below. Registration deadline is midnight, Saturday, May 23rd, 2020. When you register each skater must submit a short video of themselves skating freestyle. This is not the video of your freestyle routine which you will submit later. If we feel your skating is at a different level, we may move you into a different category (which we have always done). https://www.theworldroundup.com/register/

We will have more updates as we finalize all the details. Your goal, for now, is to stay healthy, stay safe, stay positive, and keep practicing!

Thank you, Your World Round-Up Staff

World Round-Up 2020 Cancelled

It is with great disappointment that we are announcing the cancellation of the World Round-Up 2020 due to the situation related to COVID-19 / Coronavirus. Screen Shot 2020-07-16 at 8.59.15 AMFor those of you that were not at last years’ World Round-Up, you missed out on an excellent opportunity to draw outside the lines. I’m talking about the new SKATE4FUN-ART4FUN Art Wall, which was the “Brainchild” of Alejandro Candioti, pictured in the center, who sponsors the Henry Candioti SKATE4FUN Award, and also our SKATE4FUN After Party. The interactive art project was built by Brit Higginbotham, painted grey by Lyle Chippeway, and tagged by Constable Troy Derrick; then, turned over to everyone to put their graffiti on the wall.

Imagine an 8-foot high by 12-foot wide wall painted light grey, then hand out 20 extra-large black felt markers and see what happens. Well, it was creative, it was fun, it was imaginative, a bit crazy at times, but the end result was fantastic. You can see for yourself as the wall is on exhibit at the 5.0 SKATEBOARDS Skate Shop located at 5654 Production Way in Langley, British Columbia.

The wall remains up until May 1st; at which time, it will be taken down, re-painted grey, and re-installed at the World Round-Up, waiting for you and your creative juices to flow. If you have an ounce of artistic ability, you are going to want to start to sketch up some cartoons and graffiti ideas so that you can put your stamp on the wall.

2018 World Round Up Winners By : Hippie Mike

Another intense Finals of the World Round Up Freestyle Skateboard Championship hosted annually at The Cloverdale Rodeo in Surrey, BC, Canada. With 60 competitors from 14 different countries spread out between the Amateur, Legends, and Professional categories it’s all about trying to qualify in the Top 15 spots in Amateur and Pro divisions to be able to compete in the Finals for the CASH.

The Amateurs came out strong looking like they could have been Pros, The floor was slick and the crowd was loud. The goal for all was to try and beat the 9 year old ripper Yuzuki Kawasaki who held the lead all weekend and of course the other young Japanese kids Yuta Fujii and Ikkei Nagao skated just as good. Marcio Torres, Josh Dunstone, Cristobal Bahamonde and Dillanger Kane were not lying down though, all coming out with amazing and almost flawless runs. But it was too tough to take out the little man so put your hands together for Yuzuki Kawasaki for being the youngest Amateur Freestyle winner of all time!

The Pro division was even crazier. With only 15 competitors in the Finals you can’t count anyone out, every single one of them has the ability to have a flawless run better than anyone elses, but Isamu Yamamoto comes with a vengeance. At 15 years old he has proven himself across the globe to be one of the best freestyle skateboarders of all time, he works hard for that status. But up against legends like Stefan Akesson and Guenter Mokulys puts experience as a factor to remember. And Andy Anderson, Ryan Brynelson, Jesse Whalen, Denham Hill and Mike Osterman also all know what it takes to put down a winning run and are all hungry for 1st place. When Isamu fell in his second run it was an opportunity to take him down, but he got up quickly and showed everyone in the building why he deserves the Gold with some intensely fast and unimaginable combos. This kid is tough to beat.

With about 10 competitors landing flawless runs it must have been tough to be a judge but they know what their job is and came to a unanimous decision that Isamu Yamamoto would repeat and be the 2018 World Round Up Champion!

Congratulations to everyone in the contest and thanks again to all who came out or tuned in to watch the battle. The World Round Up is all about freedom of expression, being part of the Rodeo gives the chance for many people who don’t know anything about skateboarding to see some amazing people doing amazing things. We hope that the excitement creates great memories for everyone in the audience and also encourages young kids to go try skateboarding and find the same passion that all the competitors have and why they travel around the world for competitions like this one. In the end it’s not about the money, and Yes everyone wants to be the winner if they can, but the end result is always just a bunch of people from a bunch of different places enjoying time together and sharing something they all love – skateboarding…

See you next year
