CONGRATULATIONS, ANDY ON MAKING THE CANADIAN OLYMPIC TEAM

There is a lot more to Andy Anderson than meets the eye. For many, he is this incredible skateboarder who wears a helmet that has been chosen to represent Canada in the 2021 Summer Olympic Games. But there is a part of Andy’s background story that only the freestyle community knows about.

In May of 2012, Andy dropped into World Freestyle Round-Up to see what it was all about. He totally related to what he saw, entered the contest, and placed 5th in the Amateur Division. Freestyle skateboarding came so naturally to Andy that a year later, he placed 3rd and 3rd again in 2014. He then upped his game and placed 1st the next two years in a row turning pro in 2017. Andy is also the recipient of the prestigious Henry Candioti SKATE4FUN Award, presented to the freestyle skater who best embodies skating with style.

This is what sets Andy apart from the rest of the street and park skaters. He continually integrates freestyle tricks into his runs in the street and park skateboard contests he enters.

Powell Peralta Bones Brigade member Kevin Harris had this to say about Andy.
“Andy Anderson is the only skater ever to be at the top of the global competition scene in 3 disciplines – Freestyle, Park, and Street. His freestyle background sets him apart when he skates any terrain by adding tricks that no one expects to see.”

We are so proud of you, Andy, and want you to know that your freestyle family wishes you all the best at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Japan.

Freestyle skateboarding lost one of its top skaters in November of 2012.  Enrique “Henry” Candioti was 47 when he passed away after losing his battle with cancer. In his memory, we have created a special award, the HENRY CANDIOTI SKATE4FUN AWARD. This award, including $500 in cash, is presented each year at the World Freestyle Round-Up to the freestyle skater who best embodies skating with style; after all, style is the essence of freestyle, something Henry was famous for.

Past recipients of this award include Takashi Suzuki from Japan, who won the inaugural SKATE4FUN Award in 2014, with Stefan Albert from Germany taking home the honors in 2015. Canada’s own Andy Anderson was the recipient in 2016, and Mike Osterman from the USA won this prestigious award in 2017, followed by China’s Shen Meng in 2018. In 2019 we saw Cristobal Bahamonde, take home this coveted trophy to his homeland of Chile. And this year the 2020 HENRY CANDIOTI SKATE4FUN Award is presented to Josh Dunstone of Australia.

Congratulations Josh. https://youtu.be/xa5NKKU6Zgk

day05What an exciting week it has been as we have watched the Rookies and Women put in great routines. Then it was on to the Masters Am and Masters Pro Divisions who showed us all that age does not matter. The Amateur Division was so large we had to spread it over three days. Day one and two of the Am’s we saw 36 skaters turn in exceptional runs, plus we saw 11 of the Pros in their division. Now it all comes down to the TOP TEN in both the Am’s and Pro’s. Join us tomorrow, Saturday, July 18th, at 4 p.m. as we see the cream of the crop battle it for those coveted 1st Place Medals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kVu01O33vk
