The World Freestyle Round-Up Is Back
May 19 to 22, 2023

We are pleased to announce that after three long years of COVID restrictions, the World Round-Up is returning to the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair, May 19-22, 2023. Our Host Sponsor, the Cloverdale Country Fair, is thrilled to welcome you back, as are our staff. We also want to acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia, which will be presenting this year’s contest. We have already been busy putting things together for the Round-Up’s return and have several new things planned. Visit CONTEST DETAILS for all the information.

In addition to the Professional, Amateur, and Masters Am Divisions, we are adding three new categories. A Masters Pro Division, age 40 and over, a Rookies Division (for skaters 15 and under), and a Women’s Division, Besides the $10,000 in Prize Money we hand out in the Pro Division and specialty events, there is an additional $4,000 in Prize Money to be awarded in the Masters Pro Division, and $3,000 in the Women’s Division. That’s $17,000 in Prize Money up for grabs, not to mention all the trophies and prizes to be handed out in the other divisions. Your family and friends will be able to catch all the action as we plan to have a Live Feed happening each day.

We also have several new skateboard displays including a Memorial Display honouring those skaters who have passed on, who mentored and helped freestyle to grow. In addition, visit our on-site skate shop to see the display of current freestyle products from participating companies.

2023 is going to be a great year for freestyle. We hope you will plan to join us from May 19th to the 22nd as the 9th Annual World Freestyle Round-Up Skateboarding Championships get underway at the 75th Annual Cloverdale Rodeo & Country Fair.

Dear skaters,

We wanted to inform you that after several attempts to put together the 2022 Online Showdown, unfortunately, we have decided to forgo holding an online contest this year. The concept of the online contest was to provide the freestyle community with a platform where they could showcase their skills during the COVID pandemic. Thanks to your participation, the Online Showdown was a huge success, with 110 skaters participating in 2020 and 178 from 27 countries submitting videos in 2021. Together we made history by staging the world’s first online video freestyle contest, something we can all be proud of.

We know that hearing about this year’s Online Showdown being canceled is disappointing, but we hope you can appreciate how massive an undertaking it has been for our small staff base to produce the Online Showdown these past two years. Knowing that the number of participants could grow substantially, we are considering holding separate online contests for each division sometime in the future, which would be a more manageable format.

With COVID restrictions now being lifted, we can again devote our time and energy towards holding the World Freestyle Round-Up at next year’s 75th Annual Cloverdale Rodeo & Country Fair. The contest dates will be May 19 to 22, 2023, so start planning to be here. Watch for full details in early January on our Website and Social Media pages.

7 GENERATIONS CUP FREESTYLE INVITATIONAL

When this year’s World Freestyle Round-Up was canceled a few months back, an opportunity arose that was too good to be true. Kevin Harris was invited to hold an invitational pro freestyle contest in conjunction with the indigenous run 7 Generations Cup, a skateboarding contest being held at the Langley Events Center. It had been many years since freestyle was a part of a Street and Vert contest, so Kevin Harris asked Terry Chui to help organize the freestyle competition. They invited 10 of the top freestyle skaters in the world to come to Canada and compete for $10,000 in Prize Money.

From the All-Terrain Street Course to the Mini Chin Ramp, the attention to detail was top drawer, as was the skating. Event hosts Brenda Knights, Renee Renee, and their crew ensured that all the competitor’s needs were taken care of. And our First Nations Hosts, Dennis Leon, and Troy Derrick, organized an outstanding indigenous presentation that would make the Calgary Stampede envious. If you were unable to attend the 7 Generations Cup this past weekend, you missed out on some incredible skating. Lucky for you, Terry filmed all the freestyle skater’s qualifying and final runs and has posted them on our YouTube Channel. Have a look.
