About the Event

The World Round-Up acknowledges the traditional land-based First Nations Peoples in Surrey, the Semiahmoo, Katzie, and Kwantlen First Nations, and the Metis Peoples, and is committed to improving the lives of Indigenous people in Surrey.

We had one goal in mind when creating the World Freestyle Round-Up; to create a fun, energetic annual event that would highlight flatland freestyle skateboarding. The four-day event is held yearly on the May long weekend at the Cloverdale Rodeo & Country Fair, just 25 miles east of Vancouver, British Columbia. With over 80,000 people attending the annual Rodeo and Fair each year, this is an ideal high-profile location for a world-class contest.

The World Freestyle Round-Up takes normally place inside the Cloverdale Curling Rink, located on the Cloverdale Fair Grounds. For 2024, we are being temporarily moved to the Alice McKay building just south of the curling rink. We transform the venue into an arena setting by hanging drapery, setting up bleachers, skateboard displays, competitors’ national flags and a skate shop. The floor is a smooth polished concrete surface ideal for flatland freestyle. The competition is divided into Semi-Finals and Finals, with several heats each day (approximately 20 minutes each). With a DJ spinning tunes and an announcer keeping the crowd and skaters pumped. In addition, over $14,000 in Prize Money and Trophies will be awarded to the winners.

During the worldwide Coronavirus Pandemic in 2020, the BC Government had to shut down all large gatherings, such as the Cloverdale Rodeo & Country Fair. Because of these COVID Restrictions, which were in effect until June of 2022, the World Freestyle Round-Up was cancelled. In its place, we held an online video contest called the “Online Showdown.” Freestyle skaters worldwide were invited to submit a video of their freestyle routine, which a panel of 5 international judges scored. The video entries and results were then shown on a live broadcast on the BRAILLE Skateboarding Youtube channel. The “Online Showdown” video contest was a big hit, with 110 skaters submitting videos in 2020 and 178 videos in 2021. Visit the World Round-Up Youtube Channel to view videos of past World Round-Ups and Online Showdowns.
